Pilgrim's Journey: Holy Land, Two Book Special: St. Porphyrios of Gaza and St. Moses of Arish
The Purpose of this Project
It is our intent to create a series of books that serve as a gentle introduction to the rich spiritual heritage of early Church patristics and ancient historical narratives. It is also our desire to prioritize lesser known saints and regions, while also drawing attention to the suffering, more heavily persecuted parts of the Church today.
This series is appropriate for readers 10 years old and up, and is especially intended for readers with shorter attention spans who might be intimidated by more scholarly patristic texts. Each volume is fully illustrated in full color. And each volume consists of the actual words of the fathers telling the life of the saint in a both informative, yet engaging way.
St. Porphyrios of Gaza: 5"x7", 36 pages.
St. Porphyrios Church in Gaza City caught the attention of the world when on October 20th, 2023, it was bombed during the Israeli invasion, killing 18 people and injuring many more. St. Porphyrios Church is the oldest church in Gaza, rebuilt by the Crusaders in the 12th century on the foundation of the original church built by St. Porphyrios in the early fifth century. Selections of St. Porphyrios’ life and miracle workings in Gaza are told here by his contemporary and disciple, Deacon Mark.
St. Moses of Arish (borders Gaza): 5"x7", 28 pages.
A fearless woman, by God’s providence and contrary to societal norms, became leader of the ferocious Saracens, a tribal people living in the desert wilderness on the edge of the greatest Empire on earth, during the reign of the Arian Emperor, Valens of Antioch. She wanted an Orthodox bishop for her people and was willing to bravely go to war against Arian Rome to get one. Moses, a Saracen by birth and a renowned anchorite, desert father, and miracle wonderworker, was the man she wanted to shepherd her people. A composite of excerpts from ancient historical narratives and the Fathers tell this amazing, yet largely unknown story. In full color and fully illustrated throughout.
