Sinai Cross With Ibex Headscarf or Table/Prayer Shelf Runner
The ibex with Sinai cross design is patterned after a marble sepulcher, that once held the relics of St. Catherine the Great, that is behind the iconostasis of the main church within the walls of St. Catherine's Monastery in Sinai, Egypt. The rest of the design is inspired by Sinai illuminated manuscripts.
This is hand embroidered with metallic thread on fine linen by Bedouin women of the Jebeliya Tribe, a local indigenous people, who have historically been caretakers and interdependent with St. Catherine's Monastery since its founding in the 6th century.
It is approximately two yards long and 18 inches wide. It can be used as a headscarf, table runner or as a prayer shelf runner (for a dresser).
